The Red Creation Neckpiece required two months of focused work to complete. The piece featured images saw pierced out of 24 karat gold sheet, called “paillons”, fired into an exquisite red opal enamel obtained from a Japanese supplier.

The settings were first fabricated as prototypes in sterling silver.  Molds were then made from these models, and the final settings were cast in 18 karat gold.  There was a millegrain trim applied to the outside top edge of the settings.  A millegrain trim was also applied to the outside wall of the settings at their base.  The only other decorative elements were the twisted square wire jump-rings connecting the settings.  The backs of the settings were left open to reveal the counter enamel used on the backs of the enamel pieces.  Counter enamel is not what one would refer to as pretty, but has its beauty in how it reveals the enameling process.  The bottom setting is 1 3/8” in diameter.
